ST. LOUIS – Despite a career-high 24 points by
Luke Williams, the Maryville men's basketball team was edged out 78-76 in a taut overtime by McKendree.
Anthony Holden drained three 3-pointers in overtime and finished with 15 points, while
Lucas Burton and
Dewayne Vass both finished with 10 points apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With the score tied at 61-61 in the final minute,
Luke Williams scored on drive with just under 31.9 seconds to play. However, McKendree scored on a tip-in at the buzzer that forced overtime tied at 63-all. In OT, McKendree scored on the opening possession before Holden answered from deep for a 66-65 lead. The Bearcats tied the game but Holden drained a trey from the corner. McKendree made two free throws before Holden connected with another triple for a 72-68 lead with 3:11 to play.

The Bearcats scored five straight until Vass converted in the lane. McKendree retook the lead with just over a minute to play before Williams hit a difficult turnaround jumper to put the Saints back ahead 76-75 with 31.9 seconds to play. However, the Bearcats scored with 20.7 seconds remaining. The Saints had a chance in the waning seconds but McKendree made one free throw with 0.8 seconds left. Maryville put up a 3-pointer from the corner but the potential game winner misfired.
