FROSTBURG, MD. – Challenging the No. 1 team in the nation, Maryville field hockey battled but was tripped up by Kutztown in a 4-1 decision Sunday afternoon in a neutral site game at Frostburg State.

How it Happened:
The Saints battled and kept the game scoreless through the first period.
Jojo Cox came up with two saves for Maryville. Late in the second, the top-ranked team in the nation finally broke through the defensive efforts by the Saints to grab a 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 at intermission.

Kutztown tacked on a second score before the Saints answered. Maryville earned a penalty corner, and
Jessie Earley fed Winkelmann who pulled the Saints back to within 2-1 in the 40th minute. However, Kutztown scored in the waning minutes of the third to make it 3-1. The Bears sealed the win with a tally in the fourth. Cox made 10 saves in the cage for the Saints to keep the Saints within striking range all game long.
