Maryville Women's Basketball Takes Down Division I Missouri 90-84 in Overtime

COLUMBIA, MO. – Lindsey Schadewalt poured in 23 points as the Maryville women's basketball team defeated Missouri 90-84 in overtime Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena. The Saints climbed out of a 15-point deficit to take down their third NCAA Division I team in exhibition action during the coach Brita Hand era. The Saints rained down 11 3-pointers in the second half to spring the upset. Five Saints finished in double figures as Olivia Hahn had 13, while Claire Lueken finished with 12. Bree Shannon and Liz Behan added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Hahn led the Saints on the board with eight rebounds. Maryville's defense forced Missouri to miss 27 of 30 3-pointers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 29-25 at halftime, the Saints were still down 39-32 with six minutes to play in the third quarter. Olivia Hahn drained a 3-pointer and Schadewalt sank a short jumper. The Tigers scored to go up four but a free throw by Gracie Gopalan and a deep 3-pointer by Hahn tied the score. Schadewalt sank a jumper for Maryville's first lead since the first point of the game. Claire Lueken converted a wing jumper, and Annika Pluemer sank a wing 3-pointer as Maryville took a 50-45 lead into the fourth.
 
The Saints maintained a small edge and went up 59-53 on a Lueken jumper. The Tigers chipped away and eventually went back up 69-66 with 3:08 to play. Schadewalt drained back-to-back triples for a 72-69 margin. The Tigers inched back and sank a free throw with 10 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
 
In the extra session, Pluemer splashed in a 3-pointer to give the Saints a lead they would not surrender the rest of the way. After Mizzou pulled to 81-80, Liz Behan scored in the paint and later sank two free throws for an 85-80 cushion. Mizzou cut the deficit to 85-84 but Schadewalt had the answer with a deep 3-pointer and an 88-84 cushion with 38 seconds to play. The Saints hit two free throws down the stretch to shock the DI Tigers.
