Sansone Hat Trick Highlights 5-0 Senior Day Triumph over Marian University

ST. LOUIS – A hat trick by Tia Sansone highlighted the Maryville field hockey team's 5-0 Senior Day triumph over Marian (Wis.) University Saturday.

How it Happened:
Neither team scored in the opening 15 minutes until the Saints broke through early in the second. Jessie Earley threaded a pass through traffic to Sansone, who deposited the ball into the cage for the 1-0 lead. The margin remained at one goal as the contest reached intermission.

Early in the third, Sansone fed Denise Van der Spuy who tallied her eighth goal of the season to set a new program record for goals in a season. Sansone fired in her second of the day off an initial attempt by Calista Crocker as the margin grew to 3-0. In the final seconds of the quarter, Delanie Winkelmann put a perfectly placed ball on the stick of Consuelo Torres Moore, and she moved around the Marian goalie to score with 1.6 seconds left in the stanza.

In the fourth quarter, Cloey Turiello passed the ball to Sansone who launched the ball into the left side of the net to complete the hat trick and put the game away at 5-0. The Saints defense kept the Sabres offense in check and only gave up three shots. Jojo Cox made one kick save to post the shutout. Sansone has also recorded eight goals on the season and has amassed 21 points to break Maryville's single-season scoring record for points.

Records:
Maryville: 5-3
Marian: 6-2
