Double Braces from Lund-Iversen and Ayelo Power Saints Past UMSL

ST. LOUIS — The Maryville men's soccer team put on a show during Homecoming weekend, defeating crosstown rival University of Missouri–St. Louis 5–1. Marcos Ayelo and Jacob Darwesh Lund-Iversen each scored twice to lead the Saints to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Maryville opened the match with confident possession, dictating play across the field. The breakthrough came in the 21st minute when Ayelo volleyed home a rebound from a Jan Fulnek shot, finding the top of the net to make it 1–0.

Just minutes later, Jacob Lund-Iversen opened his tally with back-to-back goals just 90 seconds apart. The freshman struck at 26:43 and again at 28:07, extending Maryville's lead to 3–0. The rest of the first half saw the tempo settle, with no additional goals before the break.

As the second half began, UMSL scored first, cutting the Saints' lead to 3–1. Ayelo quickly responded with his second goal of the day, regaining momentum for Maryville. Later, another Fulnek shot was saved by the Tritons' keeper, but a misplay by a UMSL defender resulted in an own goal, helping the Saints secure the 5–1 victory.
