WISCONSIN DELLS, WIS. – The Maryville men's basketball team nearly toppled No. 13 Michigan Tech but the Huskies held on to down the Saints 72-61. Henry Sanchez topped Maryville in scoring with 20 points. Eric Hackett finished with 17 points, while Evan Palmquist supplied 14 points. Kobe Clark led the Saints on the glass again with nine rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 10-6, the Saints embarked on an 8-2 burst to take the lead.Sanchez started the run with a three-point play. Preston Clark drained a 3-pointer and a dunk by Palmquist put the Saints up 14-12. MTU hit a trey before Palmquist sank back-to-back triples to push the Saints ahead 20-15. The Huskies answered with 13 straight points to reclaim the edge at 28-20. Maryville broke the drought with five straight but Michigan Tech narrowly stayed in front and took a 30-27 advantage into the break.
 
The Huskies began the second half with a rush before the Saints chipped away at the deficit. Hackett drained a 3-pointer, and Preston Clark worked inside for a bucket. Sanchez shook free for another triple as Maryville closed to 47-42 with 11 minutes to play. MTU used an 8-2 spree to go back ahead by double digits until Palmquist scored. Hackett hit two free throws, and a Sanchez 3-pointer pulled the Saints to 55-51 with just under eight minutes to play. However, MTU scored nine straight points and kept the Saints at bay to take the contest.
