Saints Rally Late to Defeat Truman State 3–1

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Maryville men's soccer team closed out their regular conference season on Sunday with a late surge, scoring three goals in the final 15 minutes to defeat the Truman State Bulldogs 3–1.

Magnus Buschmeier, Sebastian Weitlaner, and Jose Vilela all scored for the Saints, who finished conference play with strong momentum heading into the postseason.

The Saints, who already clinched with a win on Friday, now know their fate for the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament, as they head to Indianapolis for a rematch against the Greyhounds in Key Stadium. More information to come regarding the GLVC tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams came out strong in the first half, trading early chances, but Truman State struck in the 23rd minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Asgrimur Vidisson kept Maryville in the game with three saves, while the Saints offense failed to convert.

Maryville took over in the second half, outshooting Truman State 8-6 and collecting five corners while denying the Bulldogs any.

The breakthrough came in the 76th minute when Buschmeier leveled the match with his first goal of the season. Weitlaner quickly followed with the goal that put Maryville ahead, and Vilela capped the comeback with a late strike to secure the 3–1 win.

UP NEXT
The Saints will head to Indianapolis to take on the University of Indianapolis in the GLVC Tournament quarterfinals this coming weekend.
