Volleyball Season Ends in Quarterfinals of GLVC Tournament

WILLIAMSVILLE, ILL. – The Maryville volleyball team saw its 2025 campaign come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Indianapolis in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Williamsville, Ill. The Saints took the first set 25-23 but UIndy rallied in the final three sets 25-21, 25-22, 25-20. Emma Hoing drilled down a team-high 16 kills with a sparkling .405 hitting percentage. Ella Brinkmann added 12 kills and 18 digs, while Olivia Klump came up with a team-high 21 digs.
 
How it Happened
Maryville opened strongly, taking the first set behind balanced attacking and timely blocking. Emma Hoing sparked the early surge with six kills in the opening frame, while Brinkmann added four kills and teamed with Leslie Longanbach for multiple key blocks. The Saints went on a 6-1 run to establish a 13-8 advantage. UIndy tied the score at 22-22 before Brinkmann and a solo block by Leslie Longanbach earned set points. After a Greyhound point, Longanbach had another solo block as Maryville closed out the set 25-23. Maryville built early momentum again in the second set, jumping ahead 5-1 after kills from Brinkmann and Longanbach. The Saints stayed up and took a 19-16 lead. UIndy, however, responded with a 7-1 run to pull ahead and even the match.
 
Hoing and Ellie Witthaus continued to pace the Saints in the third set, combining for nine kills, while setter Taylor Reynolds kept the offense steady with 17 assists in the frame. Maryville held a 21-17 lead featuring three kills by Hoing. But the Greyhounds countered with by scoring a 7-1 closing run to take a 2-1 lead in sets. Maryville opened the fourth with a 3-0 run. Ellie Witthaus had a kill for a 6-3 advantage. The Saints still were up 12-9 after a Brinkmann kill but UIndy took a 16-15 edge. Hoing had a kill before a service ace by Taylor Reynolds for a 17-16 margin.
Greyhounds answered with a 4-0 stretch to take the lead, and a late 4-1 rush to end the match.
