ST. LOUIS – The Maryville men's basketball team used an 18-4 run to close the game and rallied for a 78-71 victory over Union University. Lincoln Palbicki had a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Saints. Eric Hackett and Henry Sanchez both finished with 13 points apiece, while Evan Palmquist added 12 points. The victory is the first on the season for the Saints.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 67-58 with 6:24 left to play, Sanchez started the run with two free throws. Kobe Clark followed with a hook shot in the lane before Palmquist splashed in a wing 3-pointer. Sanchez found Clark for a layup to tie the score at 67-67. Following a Union timeout, the Saints made a defensive stand before Preston Clark drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key to push the Saints ahead 70-67 with two minutes to play to cap the 12-0 spree.
 
The Bulldogs finally scored before Sanchez answered. Union sank two free throws to trim the Maryville lead down to 72-71. Preston Clark sank a hook shot in the lane for a 74-71 edge. Palbicki converted on a layup in traffic for a five-point edge to cap his 10-for-18 shooting performance. Union missed before Palmquist sealed the win on two free throws with 12.1 seconds to play.
