EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Maryville wrestling saw its second bout of NCAA Division I action this season, traveling to Edwardsville, Ill., for the SIEU Double Duals. The Saints saw the mat twice on the day, defeating Aurora 40-5 before falling to SIUE 29-6. 

Elijah Almarinez and Orest Nazarchuk were the only Saints to go 2-0 on the day. In total the Saints scored two pins on the day with two tech falls. 

VS. AURORA
Battling Aurora of NCAA DIII to start the day, Maryville was off to the races early. Almarinez grabbed a first period pin with Yashua Amen following up with a major at 133. 

It kept going from there with JP Homfeld and Colin Reif going back-to-back on decision wins. Aurora grabbed their lone win at 157 before Mustata Salimi grabbed a dominant tech fall just a match later. Cole Ritter, John Gholson, Jeremiah Larson and Orest Nazarchuk closed the door from there, all of them scoring extra-point victories to close out of the dual.

Facing off against the host Cougars, the Saints came out hungry, with Almarinez scoring a 3-2, using a first period takedown to earn his win. The Cougars went on a streak from there, taking the next eight matches before Nazarchuk ended it with a 7-6 win at 285.
