Saints’ Bats Explode on Day Two in Branson

BRANSON, Mo. – Day two of the DII Leadoff Classic saw more success for the Maryville Softball team as they moved to 4-0 after a pair of very different wins. Game one, which saw the Saints battle the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers, came to an end after just five innings after the Saints offense exploded for 13 runs for the five-inning run rule. Game two of the day, conveniently against Southwestern Oklahoma State, came to an explosive end from Addison Koth after 6 & 1/2 innings of scoreless softball.

GAME 1 | Maryville 13, Northwestern Oklahoma State 4
For the Saints, day one small ball was the strategy. Well day two was high powered offense as the Saints plated runs in all five innings of the contests. The first of two big blows came in the second inning with Emily Corona's two-RBI double starting the action and Isabella Garcia finishing it with a sac fly for the three-run frame.

The second big inning ended with Jenna Kosnoff and Koth both leaving the yard for the first homers of the season. A Cora Boyle RBI fielder's choice and subsequent shutout inning wrapped up game one for the Saints.

GAME 2 | Maryville 2, Southwestern Oklahoma State 0
While offense was easy to come for the Saints in their opening bout, it was sparse in their second of the day. Both pitchers were shutdown through the first six frames, with Chayse Ramey earning her second win of the season with seven innings of scorless ball.

When it came down to the final half frame, the bat of Koff struck again as she hit a missile of a two-run walk off shot to left center to end it and leave the Saints 4-0.

UP NEXT
The Saints will look to end their weekend perfectly as they finish their stay in Branson, Mo., tomorrow with battles against both Minnesota Crookston and Missouri Southern.
