ST. LOUIS –
Gianna Guzek stopped a career-high 15 shots in a scintillating performance to guide #7 Maryville women's lacrosse past #6 Regis 16-9. The sophomore goalie saved four straight free-position shots in the second half as the Saints outscored the Rangers 8-4 after intermission.
Chloe Elliott paced the offense with six points on three goals and three assists, while
Helen Bae,
Devyn Dimovitz and
Natalie Tomljenovic all finished with five points apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints scored the first two goals of the game before the Rangers answered with four straight. Maryville responded by reeling off five consecutive goals. Bae scored her second of the day to start the run, and Tomljenovic notched a player-up goal.
Kylie Pettus and Demovitz continued the run, and Tomljenovic fired in another player-up score as the Saints surged to a 7-4 lead. The teams traded goals as Maryville was up 8-5 at the break.

The Rangers opened the third with two goals to make it 8-7 but the Saints again had the answer with four consecutive scores. Elliott fired in her second of the day for a 9-7 margin. Guzek took over in the cage as she stoned Regis on three straight free-position shots in the quarter. Demovitz put the Saints into double figures before
Marissa Zeno and
Emmery Clark scored to make it 12-7.

Regis tallied in the opening minute of the fourth but Elliott responded by completing her hat trick. After Guzek made another save, Zeno scored to make it 14-8 with just under 11 minutes to play. Regis added a player-up goal but the Saints won the ensuing draw control, and Tomljenovic rocketed in her fourth of the day. Bae tacked on the 16th goal of the day to seal the win. Appropriately, the game ended when Guzek made a final stop at the buzzer for her 15th save of the game.
