SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Maryville Softball saw its road-trip finale doubleheader spoiled by the Drury Panthers who took both games in Springfield, Mo.
The Panthers' pitching shutdown the Saints in game one to a tune of a 7-1 win, before the bats turned hot, winning the scoring fest of game two 17-9.
Emily Corona tallied four RBIs in game two on a 3-4 day, which included a double and a home run.
GAME 1 | DRURY 7, MARYVILLE 1
The home team, after a quick top of the first, immediately went to work, scoring five unanswered runs after three innings. The Saints finally got a response in the top of the fourth with
Addison Koth ripping a ball up the middle, leaving It 5-1.
A single run in both the fifth and sixth found the final score.
GAME 2 | DRURY 17, MARYVILLE 9
The Saints wasted no time getting on the board as Corona singled and eventually scored on
Isabella Garcia's two-run home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Drury responded swiftly, capitalizing on four Maryville errors to plate six runs in the bottom of the frame.
After trading runs through the early innings, the Saints staged an impressive rally in the fifth. Down 7-3, Maryville exploded for six runs to seize a 9-7 advantage. Corona delivered the big blow with a three-run homer to center field, while
Emily Erb added a two-run single earlier in the inning.
The Panthers answered immediately with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead, 10-9. Drury then piled on seven more runs in the sixth to ice the game.
