KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Invitational season has concluded for the Maryville softball team as it wrapped up its time in Kansas City, Mo. at the Midwest Collegiate Classic. The Saints fell in both of their Sunday contests, suffering a 9-0 defeat to Central Missouri, before falling victim to a late-game comeback against Northwest Missouri State.
Â
GAME 1 | UCM 9, MARYVILLE 0
After a leadoff walk by
Emily Corona, the Jennies retired the next three Saints. That momentum carried them well into an explosive six-run first inning, adding three more in the second to find the final score quickly.
Â
Both
Jenna Kosnoff and
Marley Williamson recorded hits in the ballgame, while
Lexi Goeringer recorded a scoreless final inning.
Â
GAME 2 | NWMS 5, MARYVILLE 3
Leading 3-1 heading into the seventh inning, all off the bat of Kosnoff, the Saints looked to leaving Kansas City, Mo. on a high note.
Â
However, after two RBI doubles in the seventh, it was a new game, tied up a 3-3 with all the momentum in the hands of NWMS. Â A
Marley Williamson double ignited the Saints in the bottom half of the seventh, but a great throw by the right fielder on a
Kaitlyn Wagner single cut down Williamson at home, not allowing Maryville the go-ahead.
Â
With the big out, Northwest Missouri State punished, putting up two more runs in the top half of the ninth to win the game.
Â
UP NEXT
The Saints head out west, right back to Kansas City, for their first GLVC-action of the season, a doubleheader against Rockhurst, with game one set for 12 p.m.
