Koth Hammers Two Bombs and Saints Walk Off in Game Two to Sweep Lincoln

ST. LOUIS – Powered by Addison Koth in game one and a walk-off in game two, the Maryville softball team took both ends of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon over Lincoln University. The Saints were victorious in game one 7-2 and walked it off 6-5 in the finale.

GAME 1 | MARYVILLE 7, LINCOLN 2
In the first, Emily Corona walked and stole second. With two outs, Koth cranked a line drive over the fence for a two-run blast. Marley Williamson walked, stole second and took third on a wild pitch. Corona walked and swiped second, and an errant throw brought Williamson home. Later, Corona touched home on a wild pitch for a 4-0 advantage.

The Blue Tigers tallied two runs in the top of the fourth before Koth put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth. Jenna Kosnoff walked, and Isabella Garcia singled. Koth hammered a drive over the fence in left for a 7-2 margin. Cora Boyle notched six strikeouts and went the distance to record the pitching win.

GAME 2 | MARYVILLE 6, LINCOLN 5
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Koth drew a walk to force home a run. Mandi Lenon was hit by a pitch to bring home another run for a 2-0 margin. Lincoln used four hits to push across three runs in the top of the second before the Saints responded. Kosnoff reached on a fielder's choice before Isabella Garcia launched a two-run blast to left center and a 4-3 lead. The Blue Tigers pushed across two more runs in the top of the third to retake the lead.

Payton Deakin singled to leadoff the bottom of the sixth and took second on Emily Corona's base hit. Garcia lashed an RBI single to left to forge a 5-5 tie. The Blue Tigers put two runners in scoring position but pitcher Ella Ludden recorded a strikeout to end the threat and set up the heroics in the bottom of the seventh. Lenon was hit by a pitch to start the rally, and Cailynn Gdowski had an infield single. Ryli Metcalf singled up the middle to load the bases. Corona hammered a ball towards third but Lenon's speed down the line forced an errant throw to home as she scored the game-winning run.

Ludden pitched the final four innings in relief and racked up 10 strikeouts to pick up the victory in the circle for the Saints.
