Saints Fall in Chilly Tuesday Battle With Prairie Stars

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – On a sharply cold and windy day in Springfield, Ill., the Maryville baseball team dropped a 13-11 decision to the Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars.

Four Saints recorded multi RBI games, with Dominic Sharp recording three RBIs on a 2 for 4 day from the plate that included two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It looked all Saints early as Ambrose Russo led off the game with a double in the right center gap. A Sharp walk set the table for Josh Herget to get two across with a ball roped into right center.

Five more Saints runs came to pass in the top of the second, most notably coming off the bat of Sharp where he plated both Cameron Macon and Andrew Gould. The Prairie Stars responded with a three spot of their own to make it 7-3 after just a pair of innings.

Macon's RBI single in the top of the third brought the Saints lead to 8-3, but as quickly as the Saints racked up the lead they saw it dwindle away, giving up eight runs over the next three frames while only bringing across one to leave it 11-9.

Efforts by Sharp and Christman brought the visitors run total to 11 but the bullpen of the Saints was feasted on by UIS, scoring in both the seventh and the eighth to find the final.

UP NEXT
The Saints are on the road this weekend to Rockhurst. Heavy storms in the forecast in Kansas City, Mo., have the dates up in the air. Stay tuned to @MaryvilleSaints on X and Facebook for more details.
