LIBERTY, Mo. – Despite blasting four home runs on the road at William Jewell, the Maryville baseball fell in the 10th inning 14-13 via a walk-off 2 RBI single by the home Cardinals.
The Saints tallied eight total extra-base hits, with homers by Brayd Kindhart (2nd inn.),
Cole Christman (3rd inn.),
Matt Arnold (4th inn.) and
Dominic Sharp (7th inn.) being the big blasts of the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
As it seems to be the theme for midweeks, offense came easily for both sides.
Camden Ruby got it going in the first, scoring two on a double roped down the rightfield line. The Kindhart blast answered a Jewell run in the first to leave it 4-1.
The Cardinals began the back-and-forth slugfest as they tied it in the second on their own homer, and then too the lead in the third. Keeping just enough ahead, the Jewell lead was finally caught up to in the seventh where a Sharp clutch bomb leveled the score a 10-10.
A
Jace Burton double in the eighth and a
Baker Shelhamer hard hit ball in the ninth resulted in what looked to be the dagger in the ballgame. But the Cardinals refused to quit, plating two on another big fly in the ninth to leave it 12-12 into extras. Burton once again played hero, giving the Saints a lead, but poor pitching control by the Saints allowed the Cardinals to capitalize with the 2 RBI walk off single in the bottom of the tenth.
