KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Maryville softball team recovered well from a tough game one to force a split with the Truman State Bulldogs. After falling 12-0 in the first game in just five innings, the Saints came back to work with
Cora Boyle posting a complete game victory for the 3-2 win.
Marley Williamson was the offensively leader for the Saints, going 3 for 4 across two games with a walk.
Boyle, in game two, snagged her 14th win of her freshman campaign, holding a potent bulldog offense to just two runs.
GAME 1 | TRUMAN 12, MARYVILLE 0
After two scoreless frames from both sides, walks became the thorn in the Saints side, proceeding to issue six free passes in the third, helping the Bulldogs plate nine. Two more walks and three more TSU runs came to pass in the fourth as the Saints fell mercy to the run rule.
GAME 2 | MARYVILLE 3, TRUMAN 2
Desperate to shake off a decisive loss, the bats got going for the Dawgs quick.
Emily Corona began the game with a single, with
Jenna Kosnoff following with a hit by pitch. A fly out sent Corona to third, allowing for some crafty base running to create the first run of the day for Maryville.
Mandi Lenon made it 2-0 an inning later, ripping a ball through the left side, allowing
Miranda Bondurant—who reached on an inning-opening double—to score. A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch issued to
Isabella Garcia gave the Saints a 3-0 advantage.
Truman finally cracked across two in the fifth, but some well located pitching by Boyle prevented the comeback to finish.
