QUINCY, Ill. – The Maryville softball team returned to its sweeping ways on Sunday, taking both of a afternoon twin bill at the Quincy Hawks.
Game one saw
Chayse Ramey back to her usual self, earning her tenth win of the season on a complete game, allowing just two earned runs. Three different Saints tallied RBIs, with
Cailynn Gdowski and
Marley Williamson both going for multiple hits.
Finishing off the sweep, the Saints used two big innings to find the 10-3 final in the second half of the doubleheader.
Emily Corona and
Isabella Garcia were the dangerous duo for the Dawgs, plating seven of the 10 runs by themselves. Corona, who owns the single-game RBI record, went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, snagging a double and a homer. Garcia added her own dinger in the seventh to find the final.
GAME 1 | Maryville 4, Quincy 2
Corona got the scoring going early, sprinting home on a wild pitch in the third for the advantage. That mark held until the fifth where
Jenna Kosnoff dropped in a RBI single.
The sixth is where the magic happened though with
Kaitlyn Wagner and
Mandi Lenon brining the Saints lead to four. The Hawks attempted a comeback, using an RBI double and a RBI single to make it a two-run game, but Ramey shut them down in the seventh.
GAME 2 | Maryville 10, Quincy 3
Cora Boyle toed the slab in game two and made just one mistake all day, surrendering a three-run homer in the third that gave the Hawks their first lead of the afternoon.
The bats picked Boyle big in the fourth, with the Corona double and a RBI flyout by Kosnoff tying the game. Garcia then took the lead with a ripped single, erasing the Hawks advantage.
A Gdowski bomb in the fifth added one more before both Corona and Garcia added homers of their own in the seventh to find the final.
