EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Maryville softball faced an early setback at the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill. The Saints fell by a score of 4-2 to the No. 6-seeded University of Indianapolis Greyhounds, sending them to the lower side of the bracket. 

Kaitlyn Wagner went yard in the contest, taking GLVC Freshman of the Year Cheyenne Eads deep in the second inning. 

The Saints now will be set for a 11 a.m. match tomorrow against the No. 2-seeded Lewis Flyers. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds got on the gas early, plating two in the top of the second off a 2-RBI double. Wagner proceeded to cut that lead in the later half of the inning to make it 2-1.

The bats kept going, erasing the Indy lead with a Jenna Kosnoff double in the third. 

Chayse Ramey worked out of trouble in the fourth with a clean one-two-three frame in the fifth to keep it even. The experience of the Greyhounds finally cracked through in the sixth with an RBI single. Another Greyhound run in the seventh brought it to the final. 

Maryville brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh but were unable to score.
