ST. LOUIS – In its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, the No. 6 Maryville women's lacrosse team mauled McKendree 24-3.
Chloe Elliott and
Marissa Zeno topped the Saints with six goals apiece, and Zeno added three assists to cap a nine-point day.
Helen Bae added four goals,
Emmery Clark dished out five assists, while
Natalie Tomljenovic had four points on the day to reach 100 for her career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints took control from early in the contest as they reeled off 11 goals in the first quarter. Zeno tallied less than two minutes into the game, and
Devyn Dimovitz scored two minutes later to double the lead. Bae sandwiched a pair of goals around one by Zeno in a 49-second span. Elliott took over the scoring with three goals mixed in with one by Zeno. Tomljenovic pushed the Saints into double digits, and a late score by Elliott made it 11-0 after 15 minutes.

The Saints stretched the margin to 14-0 early in the second quarter. McKendree finally scored at the 4:22 mark in the second as Maryville took a 15-2 lead into halftime. The Saints opened the third quarter by scoring the first five games as the gap grew to 20-2. The victory pushes the Saints winning streak into double digits at 10. The Saints committed a season-low five turnovers and were a perfect 14-of-14 on clears. The Maryville defense held McKendree's Jayna Barnden, who ranks fourth in the country in scoring, without a goal.
