Herget’s Heroics Help Saints Sweep Hawks

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It's a four-game series sweep for Maryville baseball over the Rockhurst Hawks in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. With the wins, the Saints are now 17-15, with a 10-6 GLVC mark, moving them into third place in the league.

Maryville used a big late-game rally in game one to overcome the Hawks by a score of 5-4 in seven innings. Game two saw more tight baseball as Ryan Hoshaw's five innings of work led the Saints to a 4-2 victory.

GAME 1 | Maryville 5, Rockhurst 4
Rockhurst plated a run in each of the first three innings to jump to a 3-0 lead, with the Saints answering back with a two-spot in the fourth. Jace Burton got it going, roping a triple that scored Josh Herget, with a fielding error bringing Burton home one batter later.

Another Hawk run came to pass in the sixth, leaving the Saints down to their final three outs.

Cameron Macon led off with a single, with a two-out walk by Cole Christman making it first and second. A Camden Ruby double brought home Macon, with Josh Herget's single giving the Saints the lead.

Alex Bryan came in to close it out, earning his second save of the season. Ty Rauser earned the win, going six strong, with six strikeouts.

GAME 2 | Maryville 4, Rockhurst 2
After a run came across in the first, Hoshaw locked in for the Saints, tossing the next four scoreless. While the lefty went to work, the bats got hot in the fourth, as after a Hawk error tied it, Macon doubled with the bases juiced to move the score to 3-1 Saints.

A wild pitch scored another run to make it 4-1. Sam Cardwell came in relief, tossing 1 2/3 innings before Braeden Sunken closed it out over 2 1/3. The pair of relievers struck out seven batters over their four innings, with Sunken picking up his first save of the season.
