ST. LOUIS –
Marissa Zeno tied her season high with six goals as the Maryville women's lacrosse team took down Grand Valley State 17-14 and advanced to the 2025 NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals. The Saints will face a familiar foe in Indianapolis Saturday, May 17, at 3 p.m. for the right to advance to the final four. Zeno tacked on two assists for eight points on the day as she reached 100 for the season, while
Helen Bae delivered five goals and two assists.
Gianna Guzek made eight stops in the cage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Natalie Tomljenovic opened the scoring and Bae followed to double the Maryville lead to 2-0. The Lakers came back to tie the score at 2-2 before
Chloe Elliott pushed the Saints back on top 3-2. GVSU took a 4-3 lead until Zeno tied the game. The teams traded goals as Zeno and
Izzy Watts both tallied. The game was deadlocked at 8-8 at halftime.

Bae cashed in the first score of the third as the teams traded goals again. Bae fired in a player-up goal, and Zeno tallied late in the third for an 11-10 lead heading into the final stanza. Tomljenovic scored but the Lakers answered. The Saints took control with four straight goals to open up a cushion. Zeno cut across the GVSUÂ cage and deposited a BTB shot over her shoulder for a 13-11 led. Just 47 seconds later, Bae converted as the Saints built a three-goal advantage for the first time on the day. Less than a minute later, Bae worked through the GVSU defense, and
Gaby Quinones scored from the right wing as the Saints pushed to a 16-11 lead with 7:32 to play. The Lakers scored on back-to-back chances until Zeno fed Bae for a goal with 1:57 to play that sealed the victory. The win is Maryville's 19th on the season to set a new school record.
