ST. LOUIS – The Maryville baseball team saw a unique road split on Friday with the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons. Originally set to be played across town, but after rain peppered the dirt field of the Tritons, the twin bill was moved to the campus of Maryville with the Saints acting as the away team on their own turf. The Saints dropped game one 6-0, bouncing back in game two for the 7-2 result.
Â
It was a two-man show for the Saints in game two, with
Camden Ruby and
Dominic Sharp accounting for all seven runs. Sharp went 2 for 4 with four RBIs, while Ruby was 1 for 3 with three ribbies of his own.
Â
GAME 1 | UMSL 6, MARYVILLE 0
Offense was hard to come by in game one as the Saints only managed three hits. The Tritons plated two off of
Ben Gregory in the second. Outside of that, Gregory remained spotless, going five with five strikeouts.
Â
The Tritons used a big sixth inning to find the final 6-0 score.
Â
GAME 2 | MARYVILLE 7, UMSL 2
After nine-innings of scoreless baseball, the Saints erased that quickly in game two, using a Ruby two-run shot to left center to take the lead.
Â
That lead was equalized in the third as a double from the home team plated two. The trend of every two innings continued as the Saints used a Sharp homer to re-take the lead.
Â
A seventh-inning double by Sharp and a Ruby sac fly found the final as the Saints evened the series.
