MARION, Ill. – The Maryville baseball teams season came to a close after dropping a 5-4 result to the Missouri S&T Miners on a elongated Thursday battle in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) tournament.
The Saints finish the season 29-22, with a 21-10 mark in GLVC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Cole Christman got the Saints offense off to a hot start, taking a first pitch heater deep to left field for the second Saints home run of the tournament, leaving it 2-0.
Camden Ruby made it 3-0 with his own big fly just an inning later.
That lead held until the fourth, where the Miners did more than tie it, putting up a four-run inning to take the lead. That was the score for a long time as storms in Marion, Ill. forced a very lengthy delay. After play finally resumed, Christman made it a three RBI day, plating
Cameron Macon on an RBI single into right field.
The Miners, much like hours before, did not let the Saints hold to the tie long, scoring on a bunt single for the game-winning run.
Ruby in his final game as a Saint went 3 for 4 with an RBI, while the transfer in Christman led the team with three RBIs.
