Ryan Herman and men's lacrosse seniors
Dagan Carlson and
Clayton Cerett were selected for the 2025 College Sports Communicator's Men's At-Large Team Academic All-America® honors. Herman and Carlson were both first-team selections, while Cerett garnered third-team honors.
Herman becomes the ninth Maryville student-athlete to earn multiple selections as a CSC Academic All-American. He was named the 2024-25 Great Lakes Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for wrestling, capping off what was already a historic season for the Saints standout. Herman concluded his Maryville career with a national championship at 285 pounds and secured his second consecutive NCAA Super Regional title. A consistent force in the Saints lineup, he posted a 29-2 record on the season and captured the prestigious Midwest Classic title along the way. Herman graduated with his master's in business administration.
Carlson was a second-team USILA All-American and a third-team All-American as chosen by USA Lacrosse Magazine. In addition, he earned USILA Scholar All-America honors. A short-stick defensive midfielder, Carlson picked up 55 ground balls this season and ranked third on the team with 17 caused turnovers. He added five goals and five assists to the offensive attack. Carlson graduated with a 3.81 grade point average with a major in finance.
Cerett was an honorable mention All-American as chosen by the USILA and USA Lacrosse Magazine. He also earned USILA Scholar All-America recognition. Cerett, an attacker, tied for third on the team with 45 points on 22 goals and 23 assists. He recorded a hat trick in the NCAA Tournament romp at Anderson and had two goals and two assists in the national semifinal game at No. 1 Tampa. Cerett picked up at least one point in 18 of 19 games. He graduated from Maryville with a 3.88 GPA majoring in accounting.
Carlson and Cerett helped Maryville win the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. Maryville reached the NCAA Tournament semifinals and ended the season with a school-record 14 victories.
The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. To qualify, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Herman, Carlson and Cerett become the 48th, 49th and 50th CSC Academic All-Americans in Maryville Athletics history.
