How it Happened:
The Saints garnered a penalty corner in the 12th minute of play that led to a
Tia Sansone shot that was saved. However, the ball bounded back to her and she slotted in a shot to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Maryville had three more good scoring chances but saw the attempts get turned aside. Pace carried the play and took two shots but the Saints had defensive saves, including one by
Dorothy Fife that preserved a 1-0 margin at halftime.
Â
The Setters earned a penalty stroke four minutes into the third quarter and converted to forge a 1-1 tie. The Saints answered with a late goal in the third quarter. Maryville pushed the ball down the field and earned a penalty corner. Sansone restarted and pushed the ball short to Winkelmann who hit a low rocket inside the left post for a 2-1 lead with 1:11 left in the third. Cox made numerous sprawling saves in the fourth to preserve the one-goal lead. Maryville drew a penalty stroke in the waning minutes, and Crocker converted to put the game to bed. Cox's 17 saves are the second-highest in program history.
