Springfield, Ill. – Led by 10 kills from
Caroline Glastetter, the Maryville volleyball team opened the Prairie Stars Classic with a 3-0 sweep over Northwest Missouri State. The Saints prevailed 29-27, 25-13, 25-21 as their defense held the Bearcats to just a .044 hitting percentage.

How it Happened
Down by as many as six points in the first set, the Saints finally tied the score at 15-15. After the Bearcats rebuilt a 17-15 edge, the Saints scored five straight. Two NWMSU errors tied the set before a
Leslie Longanbach kill put the Saints ahead. After an
Ella Domian kill, Glastetter put down a kill for a 20-17 edge. However, the Bearcats forged a tie at 22-all. Still deadlocked at 27-27,
Lynsey Batson scored, and a Domian kill won the set 29-27.

Up in set two 6-5, the Saints reeled off four straight points. Longanbach had a solo block, and she teamed with Domian on two straight blocks. A kill by Glastetter made it 10-5. Back-to-back kills by
Payton Mandac put the Saints on top 16-8. Maryville pushed the margin to double digits and cruised the rest of the way.

Tied in the third at 12-12,
Ella Brinkmann and Batson posted a block, and Mandac hammered down a kill to give the Saints the lead. The Bearcats closed to 17-16 before the Saints took control with four straight points. Domian and Glastetter had consecutive kills, and after a NWMSU error, Glastetter made it 21-16. The Bearcats got as close as four points but the Saints closed out the match.
