ST. LOUIS – The Maryville field hockey team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of Converse in a 2-0 decision Saturday morning. The Saints took 13 shots, and eight ended up on frame, but none found the back of the cage.
Â
How it Happened:
The Valkyries opened the game with a rush and put two early shots on goal but
Jojo Cox came up with a pair of saves. However, Converse broke through in the fourth minute of play, the first time the Saints have allowed a first-period goal all season.
Â
Converse nearly scored early in the second but
Riley Monroe made a diving defensive save to keep the deficit just 1-0. However, the Valkyries doubled their lead less than a minute later to grab a 2-0 advantage.
Delanie Winkelmann saw the first good scoring chance for the Saints but her attempt was saved.
Â
Tia Sansone had back-to-back shots turned away in the third quarter. Maryville continued to press for a breakthrough late in the third but attempts by
Consuelo Torres Moore and
Denise Van der Spuy did not find the range. The Saints had four shots on goal in the fourth but misfired as the Saints were held scoreless for the first time all season.

Records:
Maryville: 4-2
Converse: 5-2
