St. Louis – In its 2025 season opener, the Maryville field hockey team saw Lincoln Memorial score the game winner in the final minute to escape with a 3-2 victory.

How it Happened:
After a scoreless opening quarter, the Railsplitters took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. The Saints earned a penalty and kept the ball in the LMU end.
Tia Sansone collected a pass from
Calista Crocker and fired in a shot for a 1-1 tie early in the third.

The Saints pulled ahead on another chance off a penalty corner in the 37th minute.
Denise Van der Spuy began the sequence and passed to Crocker on the wing, who pushed the ball over to
Delanie Winkelmann. She took a shot, and Van der Spuy deflected the ball into the cage for a 2-1 advantage.

LMU drew even in the 52nd minute before the Saints nearly retook the lead. Maryville had two shots on goal but both chances were turned aside. The visitors had back-to-back penalty corners in the waning two minutes and converted with 58 seconds remaining to sneak out the win.
