ST. LOUIS – Despite wins at 125, 157, 197 and 285, the Maryville wrestling team fell 28-13 to No. 21-ranked Upper Iowa on Friday.

Freshmen
Elijah Almarinez and
Nick Zamora both earned wins by decision, while
Jeremiah Larson and
Orest Nazarchuk added victories of their own.

Almarinez got the dual started on a high note, scoring a key takedown en route to an 8-3 decision at 125. Upper Iowa responded by stringing together momentum, recording two falls before Zamora halted the run with an 8-4 decision at 157.

The Peacocks regained control with a 6-1 decision at 165, followed by a fall at 174 and a tech fall at 184 to put the dual out of reach. Wins from Larson at 197 and Nazarchuk at 285 closed out the night for the Saints.
