Cox Makes 12 Saves but No. 5 West Chester Stops Saints Field Hockey

ST. LOUIS – Jojo Cox made 12 saves in goal for the Maryville field hockey team but could not prevent a 5-0 loss to No. 5 West Chester Monday afternoon. The senior came up with seven saves in the first quarter to keep the Saints within range of the Golden Rams, and the 12 saves are her second highest total of the season.

How it Happened:
The Golden Rams peppered the Maryville goal and had four penalty corners. Cox denied all the WCU attempts as the contest remained scoreless after 15 minutes. WCU earned two more penalty corners and the Saints stopped the two chances. However, the Golden Rams broke through in the 19th minute. WCU tacked on two more goals to take a 3-0 margin into halftime.

WCU tacked on to its lead with a goal in the third quarter. The Saints had their best scoring opportunity when Consuelo Torres Moore pushed an attempt wide. The Golden Rams added to their advantage early in the fourth quarter. Maryville earned a penalty corner midway through the quarter, and Charissa Van den Hoorn's attempt missed the mark.

No. 5 West Chester: 8-3
