ST. LOUIS – Maryville field hockey set a season high with three goals but Rhodes College rallied to down the Saints 5-3 Saturday afternoon.
Grace Austin,
Consuelo Torres Moore and
Charissa Van den Hoorn all found the back of the cage for the Saints.
Â
How it Happened:
Austin set a new program record for fastest goal to start a game when she collected a pass from
Addy Timm and fired in a shot just 39 seconds into the contest. The goal broke the previous fastest goal of 47 seconds by
Tia Sansone against Saint Louis Oct. 19, 2022. Rhodes tied the game and then took the lead by the end of the first quarter. Torres Moore recorded her fifth goal of the season off a feed from
Ava Eiler as the game was tied 2-2 at halftime.
Â
However, the Lynx retook the lead with the lone goal of the third quarter. The Saints pressed forward to try and find the equalizer. Rhodes pushed its advantage to 5-2 before Maryville tried to mount a rally. Van den Hoorn grabbed a pass from
Andra Alexander and hit a low rocket into the net to pull the Saints within two scores.
Â
Records:
Maryville: 0-7
Rhodes: 7-1
