SAINT LOUIS – In the annual battle for St. Louis, Maryville field hockey traveled to Midtown but saw Saint Louis University hold off the Saints in a 3-0 decision Sunday afternoon. The Saints blanked the Billikens in the second half after SLU tallied three times in the first half.

How it Happened:
The Billikens earned a penalty corner in the third minute of play and converted the chance for an early 1-0 lead. The Maryville defense kept SLU at bay as the first quarter ended with the lone goal. A repeat of the opening quarter occurred as SLU battled for a penalty corner and tallied the second goal of the game. Another chance off a penalty corner for the Billikens was stopped for a bit as Saints keeper
Liz Hind made a save, and the Maryville defense stopped another shot. The Billikens finally pushed through for the 3-0 margin at halftime.

The Saints withstood a flurry of six Billiken chances but stopped each attempt at goalie
Bri Raak made a pair of saves. In the fourth quarter, the Maryville defense stymied back-to-back penalty corners. As the ball bounded out,
Denise Van der Spuy jumped onto the attack and put an excellent chance on frame but the SLU goalkeeper turned the attempt aside.
