SHAWNEE, Kan. – Maryville softball dropped its Saturday slate at the Mid-America complex, falling 6-0 to Emporia State before dropping a 7-5 decision to Rogers State later in the day.

GAME ONE | Emporia State 6, Maryville 0
Emporia State used timely extra-base hits and capitalized on a pair of Maryville errors to secure the 6-0 win in the opener.

After a scoreless first inning, Emporia State broke through in the second with a two-run home run to take an early 2-0 lead. The Hornets added an unearned run in the fourth, taking advantage of a defensive miscue to push the margin to 3-0.

A solo homer in the fifth extended the lead to 4-0, and Emporia State created separation in the sixth with three consecutive hits that produced two more runs.

Maryville scattered seven hits in the contest, including multiple extra-base hits, but could not string together enough offense to break through. The Saints put runners on in several innings, including a scoring threat in the sixth, but were unable to plate a run.

GAME TWO | Rogers State 7, Maryville 5
In the afternoon matchup, Maryville struck first. After Rogers State opened the game with a run in the top of the first, the Saints answered immediately with a two-run home run by
Laila Ruiz in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead.

The turning point came in the fourth inning. Rogers State erupted for six runs on five hits while capitalizing on three Maryville errors in the frame to flip a one-run deficit into a 7-2 advantage.

Maryville chipped away late. The Saints mounted a rally in the sixth, scoring three runs, the first coming from a Peyton Deakin RBI single. A wild pitch and a error later plated two more but the Saints rally fell short.
