ST. LOUIS – Home was sweet indeed for Maryville softball.
On the first day of the Maryville Saints Invite, the softball team swept Wisconsin Parkside by scores of 5-4 and 7-6.
Game one saw
Marley Williamson play hero, delivering the walk-off in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the opening win. The fireworks did not stop there. In game two,
Addison Koth used all her light-tower power to send the Saints home with a sweep, blasting a two-run homer to cap a three-run Maryville comeback.
GAME 1 | Maryville 5, Parkside 4
It was knotted at 3-3 after seven innings, with Parkside striking first by plating three runs in the third frame. An
Emily Erb RBI single in the fourth and RBI doubles by
Laila Ruiz and
Kaitlyn Wagner in the fifth evened the score as the teams headed to extra innings deadlocked.
The Rangers looked to have grabbed the winning run in the top half of the eighth, taking a 4-3 lead on an RBI single.
That lead lasted just two batters.
Erb led off the inning with a triple, scoring Wagner from second to tie the game. Williamson followed by hammering one into left field to walk off the Rangers.
GAME 2 | Maryville 7, Parkside 6
Late-game heroics were once again the storyline in game two.
After a first inning that saw Maryville plate three runs on RBIs by
Mandi Lenon and Ruiz, the latter coming on a homer, the Rangers chipped away, evening the score with a two-run top of the third.
Parkside then added runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to take a 6-4 lead, leaving the Saints down to their final three outs.
The rally began with a
Jenna Kosnoff double, and she later scored on a Wagner RBI single to cut the deficit to one.
No extra innings were needed, however. With one swing of the bat, Koth demolished a two-run homer to lift the Saints to the sweep.
