Bloedel Goal in Fourth Quarter Pushes Saints Past Montevallo 9-8

ST. LOUIS – Brenden Bloedel scored with just over five minutes left to play to send the Maryville men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 triumph over Montevallo. Wyatt Robertson topped the offense with four goals, while Bloedel finished with a pair of goals and an assist. Evan Alfano stopped 11 shots in the cage to pick up the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trent Zimay opened the scoring, and Robertson followed up almost exactly two minutes later for a 2-0 lead. The Falcons tied the score at 2-2 before the Saints struck for five unanswered goals. Luke Chorlton started the surge with a goal, and Robertson tacked on a man-up score. Jack Tocko found the back of the net before Robertson completed his hat trick in the first half for a 6-2 lead at intermission.

Robertson opened the third quarter with a goal as the Saints stretched their advantage to 7-2. Montevallo ended the third with three straight goals to chop the Maryville cushion to just 7-5. Bloedel cashed in a chance in the opening minute of the fourth to give the Saints an 8-5 margin. The Falcons charged back with three consecutive goals to eventually forge an 8-8 tie with over six minutes to play. Andrew Skifstad won the following faceoff and the Saints worked the ball into the middle. Bloedel collected the ball in the middle of the field, and he fired in a low shot that would prove to be the game-winning goal.

The Saints nearly put the game out of reach but had two shots saved. Montevallo got the ball in the final minute of play and had a shot but Alfano made a stop to preserve the lead. In the scramble, the Falcons put another attempt on goal but the shot hit the post and stayed wide.
