FAYETTE, Iowa. – The Maryville baseball team has swept its second Great Lakes Valley Conference series of the year, finishing off the Upper Iowa Peacocks on the road in just eight innings with a 14-4 victory. Half of the runs scored by the Saints came off the bat of one player, that being Steven Schneider who went 3-5 with seven RBIs on two home runs.
He was joined by Jack Meyer, Dominic Anselmo, Dominic Sharp and Greyson Rathgeb in the multi-hit party as the Saints ended with 15 hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on a two-run home run from Schneider before adding two more on a Jace Burton single to take a 4-0 lead.
The breakthrough, however, fully came to fruition in the fourth, plating five runs behind a sacrifice bunt RBI from Burton and a two-run single from Dominic Anselmo, followed by another two-run knock from Schneider to make it 9-0.
On the mound, Nolan Miller set the tone, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out four to earn the win.
Continuing to add on, Anselmo launched his own two-run home run in the sixth, pushing the advantage to 11-0. Upper Iowa answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and added another in the seventh, to keep the game alive for another frame, however short lived it was.
In the eighth, Schneider delivered again, crushing his second home run of the game, a three-run shot down the left-field line to seal the 14-4 victory.
Outside of the Schnieder power hour, Anselmo added four RBIs on two hits. Out of the bullpen, Maryville pieced together the final three innings to secure the run-rule win, combining to limit further damage after Upper Iowa's sixth-inning push.
