ST. LOUIS – The Maryville baseball team wasted no time getting the offense rolling Thursday afternoon, scoring six runs in the first inning on the way to a 16-4 win over Lincoln in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at Weber Field.
Andrew Gould was the offensive engine for the Saints, going 3 for 4 out of the nine hole with five RBIs, on a double and a two-run homer.
The Saints piled up 11 hits and drew six walks while capitalizing on three Lincoln errors to secure the run-rule victory. Maryville improves to 5-9 overall and 1-0 in GLVC play with the win.

Matthew Rauser opened the frame with a double before
Dominic Sharp delivered a two-run triple to put the Saints on the board.
Brady Kindhart followed later in the inning with a two-run triple of his own, and Gould capped the rally with a two-run double to give Maryville a commanding 6-0 lead after one.
The Saints continued to add on throughout the afternoon. An unearned run in the third made it 7-0 before sacrifice flies from
Dominic Anselmo and
Jace Burton helped extend the lead in the middle innings. Gould provided the biggest swing of the day in the sixth inning, launching a two-run home run to left field as part of a four-run frame that pushed the advantage to 16-4.
Alongside Gould's career day, Rauser also collected three hits and scored three runs, while Sharp, Schneider and Kindhart each added multi-run contributions for the Saints offense.
On the mound,
Braeden Sunken delivered a complete-game effort to earn the win, striking out seven over seven innings while allowing four runs on seven hits without issuing a walk.

Maryville and Lincoln will play two on Saturday for the doubleheader of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM.
