Saints Explode Early, Cruise Past Lincoln in GLVC Opener

ST. LOUIS – The Maryville baseball team wasted no time getting the offense rolling Thursday afternoon, scoring six runs in the first inning on the way to a 16-4 win over Lincoln in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at Weber Field.

Andrew Gould was the offensive engine for the Saints, going 3 for 4 out of the nine hole with five RBIs, on a double and a two-run homer.

The Saints piled up 11 hits and drew six walks while capitalizing on three Lincoln errors to secure the run-rule victory. Maryville improves to 5-9 overall and 1-0 in GLVC play with the win.

INS & OUTS
Maryville struck immediately in the first inning. Matthew Rauser opened the frame with a double before Dominic Sharp delivered a two-run triple to put the Saints on the board. Brady Kindhart followed later in the inning with a two-run triple of his own, and Gould capped the rally with a two-run double to give Maryville a commanding 6-0 lead after one.

The Saints continued to add on throughout the afternoon. An unearned run in the third made it 7-0 before sacrifice flies from Dominic Anselmo and Jace Burton helped extend the lead in the middle innings. Gould provided the biggest swing of the day in the sixth inning, launching a two-run home run to left field as part of a four-run frame that pushed the advantage to 16-4.

Alongside Gould's career day, Rauser also collected three hits and scored three runs, while Sharp, Schneider and Kindhart each added multi-run contributions for the Saints offense.

On the mound, Braeden Sunken delivered a complete-game effort to earn the win, striking out seven over seven innings while allowing four runs on seven hits without issuing a walk.
