ST. LOUIS  - The Maryville men's volleyball team picked up a crucial Great Lakes Valley Conference victory with a 3-1 win over Rockhurst. The Saints posted a 26-24, 25-23, 18-25, 25-21 to earn a split of the two matches against the Hawks.
Makai Scott led a balanced attack with 13 kills, while
Jayden Rookhuyzen notched 10 kills. Tristen Benbow and
AJ Robateau had nine and eight kills, respectively, and both hit .500 in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Rockhurst led 23-22 in set one before the Saints scored two straight. The Hawks tied the score before the Saints tallied two straight. Scott had a kill, and a Rockhurst hitting error gave the Saints a 26-24 win. Set two was close but again was tied at 23-23. Robateau put down a kill, and the Hawks hit a shot out of bounds for a 25-23 Maryville win in the second.

The Hawks had their best effort of the match and took set three. The Saints led 5-4 in the fourth set before taking control with five straight. Rockhurst committed a service error before Benbow notched back-to-back aces. The Maryville defense came up with two straight blocks.
Aidan Whitemountain and Robateau combined on a block, and Robateau notched a solo rejection for a 10-4 lead. Still up 14-10, the Saints tallied four of the next five points. Rookhuyzen and Benbow put up consecutive kills, and the Hawks had two errors for an 18-11 edge. The Saints scored three straight points to take control. Rockhurst made a late push but Usher's kill ended the match 25-21.
