No. 10 Women’s Lacrosse Thunders Past Quincy 20-2

ST. LOUIS  – The No. 10 Maryville women's lacrosse squad saw 12 different goal scorers as it soared past Quincy 20-2.  The Saints scored at least 20 goals for the second straight contest. Paige Murphy led the way with five goals, while Natalie Tomljenovic had three goals and an assist, while Helen Bae notched a pair of goals and two helpers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints got on the scoreboard first when Andra Alexandra picked up a ground ball following a caused turnover by Paige Murphy. Alexandra weaved through the QU defense, sprinted down the middle of the field and fired in a shot to give the Saints the early lead. Murphy recorded her first of the day, and Bae tacked on her first. Tomljenovic took a feed from Bae and converted for a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter. Gianna Guzek made all four of her saves in the first 15 minutes to blank QU.
 
Murphy began the second with back-to-back goals to complete her hat trick, and Emmery Clark picked up her first of they day. Murphy and Bae piled on two more scores for a 9-0 gap. Quincy scored its only goal of the half on a free-position shot but the Saints tacked on three more by Pettus, Tomljenovic and Dimovitz for a 12-1 cushion at halftime.
 
The Saints pulled away in the third as Tomljenovic and Dimovitz scored early after the break. Autumn Kuhl converted a free-position attempt, and Gaby Quinones notched a goal to make it 16-1. Maryville outscored the Hawks 4-1 in the final frame for the final margin.The Maryville defense kept the Hawks attack in check and forced 24 QU turnovers as the Saints had 17 caused turnovers.

The Saints host their final regular season game of the year Sunday, April 19, at the Maryville Athletic Complex, as Missouri Western visits for an 11 a.m. contest. The team will recognize its seniors after the game.
