Saints Post First Shutout in Program History with 22-0 Blanking of Missouri Western

ST. LOUIS  – On Senior Day, the No. 10 Maryville women's lacrosse team posted the first shutout in program history with a 22-0 blanking of Missouri Western. A dozen different Saints scored at least one goal with Paige Murphy leading the way with six goals and an assist, while Helen Bae had three goals and six assists. Goalies Gianna Guzek, Christina Bae and Annabelle Letts combined on the shutout as each made one save apiece. The Maryville defense only surrendered five total shots to the Griffons. Devyn Dimovitz tied the school record for caused turnovers with six in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints dominated from the jump as Murphy fired in a pair of goals in the first two minutes of action. Devyn Dimovitz struck for a score, and Natalie Tomljenovic made it 4-0. Murphy and Tomljenovic tacked on scores before Emmery Clark rocketed in a shot. Murphy ended the quarter like she began it with a pair of goals to make it 9-0 after the first quarter. The Maryville defense did not allow a shot and forced 11 turnovers in the opening 15 minutes.

Bae took over the scoring in the second quarter, accounting for a hat trick amongst the five Maryville goals. She scored a pair to begin the frame, with Gaby Quinones and Murphy picking up goals. Bae tallied her third as the Saints took a 14-0 lead into halftime.

Libby Knapp was the one who recorded a hat trick in the third quarter as the Saints again outscored MWSU 5-0 in the period. The Saints had a trio of first-time goal scorers in the final quarter. Freshmen Chase Duncan and Sophie Lancaster tallied, and senior stay-at-home defender Dorothy Fife scored the first goal of her career to cap the contest.
