Koth Breaks Single-Season Home Run Record as Saints Sweep Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Addison Koth is now the single-season home run record holder, blasting her 13th and 14th home runs of the season to tie and break the mark in a doubleheader sweep of the Lewis Flyers.

Koth broke the previous program record of 13, set in 2006 by Brianne Haas, by hitting two in game one to lead the Saints to an 11-2 win. In the opener, Laila Ruiz and Kaitlyn Wagner also homered, with Ruiz hitting her 12th of the season and Wagner adding her fifth.

The second half of the twin bill saw continued offensive dominance from the Saints. Koth again led the effort with a 2-for-2 performance, with both hits going for RBI doubles, while also drawing two walks.

In the circle, Cora Boyle went all six innings in game one, allowing just one earned run on six hits. In game two, freshman Aubrey Scieszinski toed the slab, going five innings for her sixth career win.

GAME 1 | Maryville 11, Lewis 2
Lewis struck first in the second inning, plating two runs. That lead did not last long, as Maryville responded in the bottom half. A pair of singles by Jenna Kosnoff and Mandi Lenon set the table before Ruiz ripped a ball down the left-center alley to make it 2-1. Koth followed with an RBI single to score Lenon and tie the game at 2-2.

Emily Erb later worked an eight-pitch, bases-loaded walk to give the Saints the lead. The long ball came into play in the fifth when Koth, on a full count, launched a home run to tie the program record for single-season blasts and make it 4-2.

Leah Perales later tripled and drove in two runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-2.

Ruiz's home run came after a leadoff single from Lenon in the sixth, and Koth followed one batter later with the record-breaking homer to push the lead to 9-2 after just three hitters in the inning.

A pitching change did little to slow the Saints, as Wagner made it back-to-back-to-back home runs, marking the first time in program history Maryville has hit three consecutive homers.

Payton Deakin added another run on an RBI groundout to cap the 11-2 run-rule victory.

GAME 2 | Maryville 9, Lewis 3
While the home runs were not as frequent in game two, the offense remained hot. The Saints scored two in the first inning on a Lewis error to grab the early lead.

The Flyers answered with a run, but Maryville responded with one in the second and four in the third to build a 6-1 advantage. Koth, Deakin, Kosnoff and Ruiz all recorded RBIs in the early innings.

A solo home run by Lewis in the fifth chipped into the lead, but Koth's second RBI double of the day and an RBI from Marley Williamson quelled any comeback attempt.
