CHICAGO  – The Maryville men's volleyball team set a new program record for longest winning streak with its 14th consecutive victory during a victory at Roosevelt. The Saints surpassed the previous mark of 13 straight wins by the 2024 team from Feb. 6, through March 5, 2024. Set scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-18. Â
Makai Scott hammered down a season-high 19 kills to energize the offensive attack.
Luke Martinez had eight kills while hitting .500 in the contest and recording a season-best nine blocks.
Zac Clark came up with 15 digs, his second most in a match this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set was close and featured multiple ties. The score was deadlocked at 12-12 before
Makai Scott put the Saints ahead with a kill, and a block by
AJ Robateau and
Jake Usher made it 14-12. The Saints tacked on three straight points for a 17-13 advantage. The Saints got some breathing room following a Scott kill and a block by Robateau and
Jayden Rookhuyzen. Roosevelt got at close as 23-20 but Scott drilled back-to-back kills to end it 25-10.

Roosevelt pulled even by taking set two, ending Maryville's program record streak of 31 straight sets won. The Saints only managed an .031 hitting mark as the match moved into the third set.

Maryville was up 9-8 in set three before tallying four straight points, including consecutive blocks by the combo of
Luke Martinez and Rookhuyzen. Scott hammered down three consecutive kills as the Saints went up 17-10. Maryville scored six of the last seven points of the set, with three straight Roosevelt errors closing the set at 25-15.

The Saints left no doubt in the fourth set as they scored the first nine points. The Maryville defense forced three straight hitting miscues by the Lakes, capped by a block from Martinez and Rookuyzen. The Saints offense picked up with four more kills as the margin stretched to 9-0. After a Roosevelt point, Rookhuyzen had a kill, and a Whitemountain service ace pushed the lead into double digits at 11-1. Maryville kept up the pressure and an
Ethan Tran kill and a Laker error built the largest lead of the night at 19-8. Roosevelt got as close as six points but a Robateau kill closed out the match at 25-18.
