ST. LOUIS – The Maryville baseball team dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to Missouri-St. Louis Tritons in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) action Friday afternoon at Weber Field.
The Saints outhit the Tritons 9-8 but were unable to overcome a pair of unearned runs early that proved to be the difference.
Maryville finish the regular season 26-23 overall and 20-12 in GLVC play.
Before the contest, the Saints celebrated six seniors in

Daniel Geiss,
Ryan Hoshaw,
Noah Leingang,
Jack Meyer and
Nolan Miller.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Missouri-St. Louis struck first in the opening frame, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to plate two unearned runs and take an early 2-0 lead.
The Saints answered right back in the second.
Aaris Stolte started the rally with a single before
Nick Daugherty worked a walk.
Zane Timon delivered with an RBI double down the line, and
Justin Gorski followed with a sacrifice fly to even things at 2-2.
The game remained deadlocked until the fourth, when the Tritons again used an error to their advantage. Two more unearned runs crossed the plate to push the visitors ahead 4-2.
Maryville chipped away in the seventh.
Matthew Rauser singled and later came around to score on an RBI knock from
Jack Meyer, trimming the deficit to 4-3.
The Saints threatened to tie things late, putting the tying run on base in the ninth, but were unable to push it across as Missouri-St. Louis closed the door.
