ST. LOUIS – It was a quality day at the ballpark for Maryville softball as the Saints swept the Quincy Hawks. Both games were settled via run rule, with the Saints winning game one 9-1 in six innings and game two, 10-1 in five frames.
Â
Laila Ruiz was the mainstay of both contests, with the freshman slugger tallying six RBIs over two games, while going 2 for 3 in game one with three RBIs and 3 for 3 in game two with 3 RBIs again. Of her five hits, she tallied a double, triple and home run over the two games.
Â
Pitching wise, Quincy managed runs in both contests, but were held to just four hits over the span of the affairs.
Cora Boyle tallied her fifth win of the season in game one, while
Aubrey Scieszinski, better known as "ski," tossed a one hitter on the way to her eighth victory.
Â
GAME 1 | Maryville 9, Quincy 1
Runs came early and often for the Saints. A two spot in the first, the first on an
Addison Koth sacrifice fly and then a E6 gifted Maryville the early advantage.
Â
A Hawk response was quickly vanquished as
Emily Erb cleared the bases in the third frame, bringing the score to 5-1. Another sacrifice fly and then a wild pitch added two more in the fourth.
Â
The final dagger came with two one as Ruiz tallied her first career triple, walking off the Hawks via run rule.
GAME 2 | Maryville 10, Quincy 1
A five spot in the first was all the Saints needed as after both Jeanna Kosnoff and
Mandi Lenon reached, Ruiz doubled off the wall to score the first run of the game. Erb,
Marley Williamson and
Leah Perales all would tally RBIs to throw the haymaker first frame.
Â
Quincy slapped across a run in the second, but a Koth bomb got the Saints right back on the board, with the single-season home run leader in Koth hitting her 16th of the season.
Â
Ruiz added her own long ball in the third, finding the final score.
Â
Notably, the contest finished in just 59 minute.
