Rhodes Moves Past Saints in Field Hockey Action

MEMPHIS, TENN. – The Maryville field hockey was looking to grab its first win of the season with a contest at Rhodes but the host Lynx dealt the Saints a 4-0 defeat. Andra Alexander tallied the lone goal for the Saints.

How it Happened:
Rhodes carried the early play and had two shots on goal. Saints goalie Jojo Cox came up with one save, and Ava Eiler cleared a ball off the Maryville goal line for a defensive save. Inke Nel had the first shot for Maryville but the game was scoreless after one quarter. Neither team generated a scoring chance but the Lynx broke through with a score midway through the second. Addy Timm put an attempt on goal but her shot was turned aside. The Saints went into halftime still trailing 1-0.

Rhodes extended its lead with a goal early in the third quarter. The Saints surged forward in an attempt to cut into the lead but the Lynx added on to their total with just over a minute left to build a 3-0 edge. The Saints earned a penalty corner which led to shots by Charissa Van den Hoorn and Consuelo Torres Moore but neither found the back of the cage. Rhodes sealed the contest with another goal. Alexander broke through for Maryville in the waning minutes when she fired in a score off a penalty corner. Coming on in relief in net, freshman Bri Raak made three saves, including one stop on a penalty stroke.

Records:
Maryville: 0-3
Rhodes: 4-0
