ST. LOUIS – The Maryville field hockey squad hosted No. 9 Slippery Rock, and the visitors proved worthy of their national ranking and unbeaten record with a 5-1 decision over the Saints.
Consuelo Torres Moore found the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season, while
Andra Alexander picked up an assist.

How it Happened:
The Saints withstood an early charge by SRU as the visitors took three shots. The Rock broke with a goal in the sixth minute of play. Maryville goalie
Jojo Cox made five saves to keep the margin at just 1-0 after the opening quarter.

The Rock pushed across a goal early in the second to double its lead. The Saints made a push in the offensive zone and drew a penalty corner. Maryville had a pair of shots on goal which were saved and also cleared off the line by a defender. Slippery Rock strung together numerous chances via penalty corners but the Maryville defense kept the deficit at 2-0. SRU extended its lead by halftime via a 3-0 score line.

In the third quarter, The Rock eventually made it 5-0. The Saints picked up the pressure as Alexander had a shot turned aside. Maryville earned a penalty corner which led to a score. Alexander fed Torres Moore in the middle of the SRU defense, and Torres Moore collected the pass and fired in a shot to get the Saints on the scoreboard late in the quarter. The Saints put more pressure on the SRU goal but could not find a second score.

Cox made 15 saves in goal for the Saints, while
Liz Hind added a pair of stops.
