ROLLA, MO. – The Maryville University volleyball team remained unbeaten in Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 3-2 road victory at Missouri S&T. The Saints won their third 5-16, 17-25, 25-12 17-25, 15-13 decision. Natalie Frazier set a career high with 19 kills, while Mallory Sell tied her career best with 32 digs. Ella Domian notched 11 kills, while Cami Kohmetscher recorded a double-double with 28 assists and 10 digs.
 
How it Happened
The Saints were down 3-2 in the opening set but roared ahead on the basis of a 5-0 burst. Up 7-5, Maryville added a 5-1 run to push out to an 11-6 advantage. Joanna Gillen keyed the run with a solo block and an ace. The Saints took a 14-10 margin and took control with four straight points. Frazier put down consecutive kills and had a block with Gillen. A Miner error put the lead at eight points as the Saints eased to the win in set one.
 
Missouri S&T had its best hitting percentage in the second set, while the Saints had their lowest as the Miners pulled even in sets at 1-1. Maryville rebounding by stunning the Miners with the first nine points of the third set. The Miners committed two straight errors before a kill by Domian and a pair of terminations by Emma Keele. Another S&T miscue forced a timeout at 6-0. The Saints kept up the attack. Leslie Longanbach and Keele had a block, and Frazier followed with another kill. Missouri S&T committed another error as the Maryville margin grew to 9-0. The Miners finally scored but the Saints advantage quickly grew to double digits at 12-1. After another Miner timeout, Maryville tacked on four straight points as its lead ballooned to 16-2. The Saints led by as many as 15 points to take a 2-1 lead.
 
Maryville's attack stalled in the fourth set as the Miners picked up their offensive surge as the match moved into the decisive fifth set. The Saints took the first three points of the set with kills by Domian and Frazier. Still up 6-4, the Miners had two errors while Hailey Levinson drilled in a kill as the Saints went up 9-4. The Miners slowly rallied and got within 11-10. Domian hammered down two kills before a Miner ball handling error pushed the Saints to match point at 14-12. The Miners saved one but then committed a serving error to end the match at 15-13.
