Anom, Vilela Tally Goals in 2-0 Defeat of UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS – A rematch of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) tournament quarterfinals saw the Maryville men's soccer team prevail over the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds 2-0 at Key Stadium.

Axton Anom and Jose Vilela accounted for the scores for the Saints. Anom's came with an assist by Jan Fulnek, while Vilela's score came from Pep Moya's assist.

Asgrimur Vidisson picked up another clean sheet on the season, despite facing no shots on goal. It is the Saints first clean sheet since Cedarville on Sept. 5.

It marks the final match between the Saints and Greyhounds in regular season GLVC action with the Hounds set to join the GMAC after the 2026-27 year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Playing on the speedy turf of Keisel Field at Key Stadium, the Hounds got the first attempt of the day, taking a shot in the 4th minute that missed right of frame.

Maryville responded with their first try of the day in the 17th minute of play, with Anom sending a shot high. The Saints withstood a pair of shots by the Hounds, responding with a free kick in the 30th minute of play. That resulted in Anom's goal as he came flying into the box off the Fulnek free kick.

The Saints held onto that lead and built upon it in the 41st minute of play, when another free kick set piece found Vilela right in front of the net with a prime opportunity that he buried for his second goal of the season.

The second half saw Maryville create three chances, while Indy fared better than the first half, taking four shots, none challenged Vidisson as the Saints held on for the 2-0 victory.
